Railway bills measured usage and recommends its Pro plan for commercial applications. In the small setup, Pro's $20 monthly minimum includes $20 of usage, which covers it (about $14 at 512 MB RAM and 0.1 vCPU per service plus a 1 GB volume). The growing and production setups are estimates at Railway's list rates of $10 per GB of RAM, $20 per vCPU and $0.15 per GB of volume per month, assuming RAM fully used and CPU at 25% of the stated vCPU on average; actual bills follow measured usage. Railway's Postgres HA runs at least three data nodes plus etcd and HAProxy services. Nodion: DS-G2 and GP-G2 packages from its public price book; an HA standby is billed as a second database node. EU Hosting and Data Sovereignty
Nodion is a German company operating under EU law, and runs your apps and data in the region you choose, including Frankfurt for the EU. For organizations that require their cloud provider to be an EU legal entity, and not just hosting in an EU data center, this is a fundamental difference. Railway is a US company. Even for data stored in its Amsterdam region, it can be subject to US data access laws such as the CLOUD Act. For regulated industries, public sector projects or any team with strict data residency requirements, the legal entity behind the platform matters.
Platform Breadth
Railway has added S3-compatible buckets, a built-in CDN and DNS for domains bought through Railway. It does not send email: Railway recommends services like Resend or Postmark, and outbound SMTP is only available on Pro and above. DNS for domains registered elsewhere stays with your existing provider. Nodion includes transactional email over SMTP and managed DNS with GeoDNS for any domain, next to applications, managed databases, S3-compatible object storage and a CDN. One platform, one bill, one support team.
Pricing and Billing
Both platforms bill by the second. Railway charges $20 per vCPU and $10 per GB of RAM per month, with a monthly minimum of $5 (Hobby) or $20 (Pro) that includes the same amount of usage. Nodion has no monthly minimum: the smallest application instance costs 1 EUR per month and a database starts at 1.50 EUR per month. Railway gives new users a one-time $5 trial credit for 30 days, then a Free plan with $1 of monthly credit. On Nodion, new accounts can earn up to 15 EUR in credit when signing up.

Nodion offers support plans from Basic (included free) through Standard, Premium and Enterprise. The Enterprise plan targets a P1 initial response time of under 15 minutes with 24/7 availability.
